Emergency repairs to Salem Water Treatment Plant completed | South Central Illinois' News, Sports and Weather Station

The emergency repairs at the Salem Water Treatment Plant have been completed with no major complications.

Salem Public Works Director Annette Sola says the work took five days to dig the 30-foot trench to reach the non-operational valve.  Without the valve, the water plant could not operate correctly.  Sola says two other valves of the same age were also replaced. “We were never endangered of running out of water.  It wasn’t even close.  But we filled everything the next day.  That was last week during the super hot days.  They did one side, brought the plant back up, and then did the second side.  so we had at least half of the plant running.  Everything went nice and smooth, except we have a giant mess out there but that can all be fixed.”

Sola says they did use a water connection with Gateway Regional Water to refill the system one day.

Due to the depth of the trench, support walls were needed to keep the trench from collapsing.

JK Trotter and Sons completed the project.
